Speaking with ‘Fortune Magazine,’ Stephanie revealed that when Vince took over the company in 1982, he got into big trouble with some unsavory types. She was talking about the delayed release of her book, ‘unREAL,’ which was initially supposed to be a personal memoir about her life growing up with the WWE. However, she realized that it was the first publication coming from the McMahon family and that she had to share some of her dad’s incredible life stories.

Why did Vince McMahon get into so much trouble?

Stephanie explained the reason for the death threats. When ‘the Mac’ took over as chairman and CEO of the company in 1982, there were a bunch of regional wrestling promotions and territories all over the United States, and the WWF then was just one of them. However, Vince McMahon was not happy with this arrangement.

As ‘The Billion Dollar Princess’ said, “What his vision was, was to take this regional property and make it syndicated – at first, all over the country and then ultimately, all over the world. In essence, there were these little fiefdoms. So, he was invading their territories and getting better television coverage, because…..he thought he had the better product, and ultimately, he did. They didn’t take too kindly to that.”

Vince McMahon was threatened by gangsters!

The most shocking part of her story was when Stephanie described one of ‘the Mac’s’ encounters with a notorious gangster! She narrated, “He told me the story of being in the room. Like this old hotel with like, the dark, wood-paneled walls, and this big oversized man with a very unattractive face and he was, you know, he was threatening my dad’s life!

With Vince McMahon having retired from the WWE as its chairman and CEO recently over a controversy involving funds, his daughter has taken up the mantle of CEO along with Nick Khan. However, it is clear why ‘the Mac’ still retains the respect of his colleagues and employees – even his biggest enemies respect Vince’s dedication and passion for the company.
