Regarding its dangerous nature, professional wrestling is one of the goriest sports; a minor error may cause a wrestler to sustain lifelong injuries. However, WWE superstar Mick Foley, also known as Mankind, was an entirely other species. It’s truly a miracle he still walks on his legs after all the brutal hits he suffered over his career.

One of his personal qualities that attracted fans and kept them watching his battles on the edge of their seats was his ability to take these horrifying hits. On the most recent episode of his podcast ‘Foley Is Pod’, Foley discussed how these hits had a severe impact on his health, affecting everything from his muscular to his neurological systems.

Mick Foley opens up about how devastating his injuries were

Long-time WWE fans have seen Mankind jump from great heights, had chairs smashed in his face, and even took pedigree on thumbtacks. After that, certainly, his health was negatively impacted. While opening up about it, he remembered the time when he was returning to WWE. The company sent him to Pittsburg for a full physical check-up. Notably, he then received a shocking revelation concerning his health issues from the doctor’s assistant.

In his words; “He [doctor’s assistant] said, ‘we’ve been looking over your MRIs and your X-rays. You’ve got too many issues. You got muscular, neurological, skeletal, and even if we are able to help from a neurological standpoint, there’s nothing we can do with those other things.’ I’m looking at all these things I did during the course of my career and I mean, I’m paying a steeper price than I thought imaginable.”

Foley added, “Nonetheless, this was pretty devastating for me and so I was going back to WWE in a really tough, dark place. It was a tough time for me. The concussions. Seeing the fallout. Seeing how much I lost in height.”

It was obviously painful for him, as he still regularly put his life in danger for the entertainment of the audience. The fact that he had 20 injuries over the course of his career, which many find noteworthy, tells a lot about both his career and the reality of the industry.
