Brock Lesnar took the wrestling world by storm in 2002 with a devastating debut. He interrupted the now-defunct Hardcore Championship match between Al Snow, Maven, and Spike Dudley and went on to destroy all the participants. His impactful bow immediately forced the world to take notice and skyrocketed him to the highest echelons. The fans were excited when he was pitted against one of the most decorated WWE Legends, Hulk Hogan.
The eventual match, however, would disappoint as Lesnar went to dominate and left the Hulkamaniacs shell-shocked. The Beast would go on to completely decimate the Hulkster and lay a quick waste of the wrestler.

The WWE did have a plan in place for a rematch between the two at the 2002 Survivor Series. However, the promotion did not go ahead with the plans as Hogan refused to put Lesnar over for a second time.
Another WWE legend, Jim Ross, was at the heart of the promotion for a long time. He recently provided his views on the supposed rematch that never happened. And the fact that Hogan refused to put Lesnar over twice.
JR on why Brock Lesnar and Hogan rematch wasn’t a good idea
Speaking on the JR Grills podcast, he said, “Really! You’re f***ing Hulk Hogan. You’re over, you’ll be over till, for eternity and beyond and in three or four days a normal dude is going to forget really it’s not gonna become an issue whatsoever about who won or who lost. Especially who lost.“
“You embellish the winner and all good stuff. I don’t know I never had, I never had a good feeling about that pairing and it might have been a blessing in disguise the match didn’t happen.” added the former WWE announcer.
How did they both fare after their failed rematch?
The two-time Hall of Famer would go on to have other sporadic stints with WWE. He would also be involved with the rival promotion TNA for a couple of stints.
Lesnar was undefeated at that time but would go on to lose to his eventual opponent, The Big Show at Survivor Series. Nevertheless, The Beast Incarnate went on to have quite a successful career in the WWE. He would try his hands at the UFC in between his two stints with WWE. And would have a fruitful stint there as he won the UFC Heavyweight Championship.

Jim Ross’s words would seem a bit harsh for the Hulkster, but he does make a valid point. A win for Hogan over Lesnar would have done nothing for the legend, as he already had cemented his wrestling legacy. On the other hand, Brock Lesnar did not need anyone to carve out a successful career in combat sports, as his impressive resume speaks for itself.
