Hulk Hogan was one of the men responsible for leading WCW in a rating war against WWE. He led the charge, which saw WCW consistently beat WWE in ratings for nearly two years. His drawing power meant WCW gave him a bumper contract in 1998 to ward off interest from their rivals.

Kevin Nash, Hogan’s nWo stable member, talked about the ‘Hulkster’s’ mega WCW contract and how much money he made. Nash also revealed that despite them being at the top, they didn’t make as much money as some of the WWE stars like The Undertaker, Steve Austin and Dwayne Johnson.
Nash explains how he and Hulk Hogan lost out on making more money
Hulk Hogan’s mega-deal with WCW in 1998 guaranteed some of the biggest perks in pro wrestling history. According to his contract, the former WWE Champion made 25% of gross ticket sales each time he wrestled for WCW on TV. He also received 15% of sales of every Pay-Per-View event in which he wrestled.
Moreover, Hogan received $20,000 per month just for wearing nWo shirts on WCW TV. The contract also revealed that he made $175 per diem while traveling for WCW events.
Kevin Nash talked about how after his initial WCW contract he got a new two-year deal, but it wasn’t possible for WCW to pay him as much as Hogan.
On a recent episode of his ‘Kliq This’ podcast, Nash said, “With that much overhead with Hulk, man, how much can you really,? We were all probably underpaid.”
Big Daddy Cool also stated that almost everybody at that time made around the same amount of money except for a few WWE wrestlers. He explained, “There was maybe I know Taker and I want to think Dwayne at that point and, of course, Steve (Austin).. they had a million as a downside guarantee.”
He further added that he and fellow original nWo members would’ve made that amount had they been in the same structure. Nash elaborated, “All the money that Steve made if we would have had the same accounting department and the same structure that’s what me Terry and Scott would have made during the same time span. We just let bootlegs fucking take a million dollars from us.”

The nWo achieved massive success and spearheaded WCW’s run to the top of the rating war. But by 1998, WWE was so hot on their heels, and eventually bought WCW.
However, WCW was able to sign off some of the biggest stars, but later it caught up with them. Many wrestlers were on big payrolls and it became eventually difficult for them to manage finances. Although, it can be argued that Hogan justified his incredible WCW contract. People paid to see him and he helped the company gain mainstream attention.

In the longer run, WCW couldn’t sustain this and it lagged behind its rival after 1998 as it was bought by Vince McMahon’s empire in 2001.
