During the latest Instagram live with Seth Rollins, Becky Lynch, and former WWE writer Brian Gewirtz, Dwayne Johnson revealed the story of his first meeting with Bill Goldberg. He stated that they first meet during Goldberg’s Raw debut in 2003. The duo then went on to have their first bout at 2003 Backlash, where Goldberg defeated The Rock.

He said how the promo would have been very simple with The Rock trash-talking and then getting speared by Goldberg. Gewirtz stated how he wanted it to be an iconic moment similar to The Rock vs Hulk Hogan moment.

Sounds good’ and Bill’s just like, ‘Yup. There’s just one problem. I ain’t Hulk Hogan.’ Intense stare and Rock and I do the little look to each other,” Gewirtz said.

In response to this, The Rock said, “Bill stared a hole through Brian… I was like, oh my God… But by the way, when Bill said, ‘I ain’t Hulk Hogan,’ of course me being me, I turned to Brian, I go, ‘I f*cking told you he’s not Hulk Hogan…’ Brian’s like, ‘No, I know. I shouldn’t have done that. Okay, okay, I got something else.’”

According to a report by Variety, the original script had both these characters originating in the same film. Recently Johnson told Vanity fair that, when the first script of the movie came to them, it was a combination story for both Black Adam and Shazam.

Johnson said, “Now that was the goal — so it wasn’t a complete surprise. But when I read that, I just knew in my gut, ‘We can’t make this movie like this. We would be doing Black Adam an incredible disservice.’”
