The 14-time World Champion Triple H has been a teacher to many young wrestlers. Before Triple H went through his cardiac event last year, he used to operate his brainchild NXT.

In addition, during his NXT stint, Paul Levesque, aka Triple H, had his best friend and WWE Hall of Famer by his side. The two best friends have given excellent opportunities to their apprentices to show their talent in professional wrestling.

Among the many superstars that Triple H and Michaels mentored was a current WWE Superstar who has been showing a lot of promise. Currently, this superstar is also Vince McMahon’s favorite guy.

Who did Mr. McMahon’s apprentice prefer over Triple H?

The 24-year-old is none other than Austin Theory and he was inspired by Shawn Michaels. Mr. McMahon’s protégé Austin Theory, while speaking to talkSPORT, revealed that he often sought advice from WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels while he was on the NXT brand.

“I found myself falling towards Shawn Michaels a lot. Triple H was always there if I needed advice or I wanted to ask questions. I had a class with Shawn where we’d go back and watch matches. I remember something; specifically, he said when I got there when I was 22,” Theory said.

Theory added, “He [Shawn] said, ‘Hey, when you go out there, he was like, are you having fun?’ So I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m having fun.’ And he said, ‘Do you like hearing the people and everything?’ and I was like I don’t really know if I hear the people and everything because I’m so focused on what I’m trying to do in the ring.”

Austin Theory recollected his chat with The Heartbreak Kid, aka Michaels, when he was 22. Unfortunately, Shawn Michaels confused him while giving him a piece of information.

However, Theory was glad he could figure out the loopholes from WWE Hall of Famer’s word, which will help him in the long run.

What advice did Shawn Michaels give to Austin Theory?

WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels gave 22-year-old Austin Theory a piece of advice that was beyond masterpiece. Austin Theory said, “He said, ‘You’ve got to find who you are and be yourself. But at 22, I didn’t know who I was.”

Vince McMahon’s protege got confused with this sarcastic remark by Shawn Michaels. Theory thought he was being himself, but with Michaels’ suggestion, he tried to figure out what he meant.

“Then I realize it was about letting a little loose. Have fun. Everybody knows being outside of the ring and being able to do promos and backstages, that’s what makes the character,” Austin Theory added.

Austin Theory ultimately realized that no matter what people backstage or in the ring speak about him, it should not affect him. The WWE Hall of Famer wanted Theory to have fun in the ring and be himself.
