In Rhea Ripley’s Absence, Rey & Dominik Mysterio’s Rivalry Reaches NASCAR as “Fake” Allegations Erupt on the Race Track

Dominik Mysterio has been embroiled in an ugly spat with his father Rey Mysterio since turning on him last year. Dominik joined The Judgement Day faction after attacking Rey Mysterio at the Clash at the Castle event in September 2022. Since that point, fans have been waiting for Rey Mysterio to get his hands on Dominik, but the Master of the 619 chose not to wrestle his son and switched brands moving to SmackDown.

However, this hasn’t stopped Dominik from being a constant thorn in his father’s side with his Thanksgiving and Christmas antics. Their family rivalry added a new chapter recently on the track of NASCAR.

Rey and Dominik Mysterio battle it out in a car race

On the recent episode of SmackDown, fans witnessed a segment with Rey Mysterio and the NXT Tag Team Champions New Day at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum ahead of the NASCAR event on Sunday, February 5th. The trio was doing a promotional gig with two-time Daytona champion Michael Waltrip and Fox Sports analyst and NASCAR great Clint Bowyer when The Judgement Day showed up.

This led to a heated exchange between the two sides. The heel faction had a NASCAR driver of their own with them in Ross Chastain. The confrontation eventually led to Dominik challenging his father to a race on the track. Rey Mysterio then told his son if wanted to get spanked like when he was 3 years old.

During the race, the father-son duo got involved in banter with each other. Dominik said, “Anybody got a booster seat for my dad”? But his father’s reply seemed to shut him up. Rey answered, “Dom your driving is as fake as your teardrop tattoo”, alluding to Dominik’s kayfabe arrest on Christmas Eve.

They continued to exchange barbs until Rey Mysterio won the race, beating out his son. As the masked luchadore celebrated with the New Day and the rest of his support team, an angry Dominik threw a helmet at his father and said, “You Cheated. You know if Mami was here that would’ve been different“.

While Rhea Ripley surely knows how to make an impact, it is difficult to say how much of a difference she would’ve made on the NASCAR track.

Will Rey Mysterio wrestle Dominik?

After initially refusing to fight his son, things have been more heated between Rey Mysterio and his son. Dominik, along with Rhea Ripley, showed up at his father’s house for Thanksgiving and gave him a brutal beating. He tried to repeat the trick on Christmas Eve but ended up getting arrested.

Even though they remain on separate brands due to Rey’s reluctance to fight his son, the time may finally come for him to go one on one against Dominik.

The storyline has played out well so far, with drama and tension being built around the father-and-son dynamic. With WrestleMania approaching fast, fans will be eager to see if WWE pulls the trigger and we finally get to see Rey Mysterio teach his son a lesson in the ring.
