Is WWE losing its touch with these embarrassing botches? What happened to the good old days?

Drew Mclntyre just finished at the top of the men’s ladder match at Money in the Bank 2024 in his bid to clinch glory. The Scotsman almost delivered on his promise, as he had proclaimed earlier. McIntyre had revealed that he would win the briefcase and successfully cash in the contract to become the WWE World Heavyweight champion. However, things did not go to plan for the Scottish star.

The Second City Saint thwarted McIntyre’s plans during the title encounter after McIntyre had cashed in to make it a Triple Threat contest between him, Damian Priest, and Seth Rollins. While that was part of the plan, a promo to hype us up for the Rollins vs Priest match fell short due to a comical blunder.

While you might have sneakily waited for CM Punk to mess things up again for the Scottish Psychopath, you might have missed out on the way Samantha Irvin dropped the ball in a live audio clip.

As Damian Priest and Seth Rollins were showcasing their wrath for each other via a vignette, the company played a weirdly fit audio. We heard the WWE ring announcer divulging, ”Shop the largest collection of WWE Money in the Bank, Toronto Merchandise at the Money in the Bank superstore. Replica WWE Championship titles, superstar apparel, signed memorabilia, exclusive items and so much more, all at the rec room in downtown Toronto. ”

Nevertheless, the Stamford-based promotion would’ve hoped to avoid any further mishaps as we get into the thick of it at the MITB PLE. However, their wishes did not come true as it wasn’t the only botch that hindered proceedings during the show. Going forward, we saw another colossal mess emanating from the Priest vs Rollins title match.

Referee botch sparks controversy and denies Damian Priest a scandal-free win

Damian Priest defended his coveted World Heavyweight Championship against Seth Rollins at WWE Money in the Bank. And it looks like Lady Luck was on the Judgment Day star’s side. Before Drew Mclntyre stormed through the ring to make the best use of his world title shot, leading to a captivating triple threat match, Rollins tried to get away by hitting a Falcon Arrow. And he just could get the three counts on the Judgment Day member since Priest clearly forgot to kick out.

If you are a keen WWE fan, you must not have missed Priest lying still for the three counts. Nevertheless, the referee’s count should have painted a different outcome and reality. The botch was so obvious that the champion himself seemed flabbergasted by being declared the winner by the official later on.

Why would a referee stop a pinfall just because music hits? There’s certainly no good explanation from the company’s side, making it a real embarrassment for themselves and an injustice to the fans on such a crucial night. In all likelihood, the botch must have occurred due to a miscommunication in timings. Perhaps at that moment, Drew McIntyre’s music must have hit to signal his arrival. However, the Scotsman’s music didn’t play at the right time, allowing for a miscue wherein Priest didn’t kick out.
