Ric Flair appeared on the NWA 73 PPV and marked his return to the National Wrestling Alliance. During his promo, he continually thanked Vince McMahon, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and The Undertaker for carrying him to major WWE PPVs, opportunities, supporting him, and other reasons.
He especially thanked Vince McMahon for the journey, and did not bash the company even once. This is unlikely behaviour from a former WWE Superstar returning or debuting somewhere else.

“I wanna thank my beautiful wife, Wendy. For every time I fell down, she picked me up. Just like Triple H picked me up, just like Shawn picked me up, just like Austin picked me up, just like everybody. Vince McMahon, I love you. Thank you. That’s why I’m here. Vince McMahon is not gonna watch this, but he’s gonna hear about it. He’s gonna say ‘Ric Flair is back where he belongs’. And Hunter, thank you for every time you told me that I was Ric Flair.”
Usually, former WWE superstars cut promos at new companies where they take at least one shot at WWE; and Vince McMahon. Now, it was rumoured that Ric Flair does not take public shots at WWE to protect Charlotte Flair, who is actively working with WWE. It’s not set in stone, but it’s believed he doesn’t want to risk a senseless war with WWE. This could lead to The Queen getting affected.

WWE released The Nature Boy in August 2021. At that point, it was believed that Flair had requested for his release. However, further reports claimed that Ric Flair tried to have a word with Vince McMahon about Charlotte Flair’s storyline, and McMahon cut him loose.
Coming to Flair’s last storyline in WWE, it involved Charlotte Flair and Lacey Evans. The company portrayed him to be in a physical relationship with Evans. It even indicated that Evans’ unborn child’s father was Ric Flair.
Both Flairs had reacted to this storyline and confirmed the storyline made them uncomfortable. Eventually, WWE scrapped the storyline when Evans had to take time off because of her pregnancy.
