Parents have a great impact on their children. It is their behavior that shapes their child’s personality. Not all children have a good relationship with their parents. Speaking of which, the wrestler-turned-actor John Cena recently opened up about his not-so-close relationship with his dad, John Cena Sr.

In a recent interview, he confessed to having some childhood struggles related to his dad. And he claims he, himself, is a big reason for his strained relationship with his father.

‘The Champ’ was the special guest for season 3 episode 2 of Kevin Hart’s ‘Hart to Heart’ show on Peacock. During the show, he discussed his relationship with his dad and confessed to the fans that he was not as close to his dad as he should be. He also took responsibility for not having an ideal father-son relationship with him.

“In and out and you know, umm… not ideal in my mind, but a lot of that is my fault, a lot of that rests on me,” he said. He always sought to get validation from his dad and felt like his father never cared enough for him and his accomplishment in his life.

He mentions that his dad was his biggest driving force. But trying to impress his dad and not getting an appropriate response was counterproductive. But he confessed that there was one time his dad gave him the validation he always sought.

Cena’s father is proud of him for getting a job in WWE

‘The Prototype discussed he feels that his father never cared for any of his accolades in life except for one. His dad is a longtime wrestling fan. So the only time his dad showed some interest in his life was when he got a job in WWE.

Despite all the struggles, he landed in WWE with a contract for $12,000 a year. When he told his father about this, it was an unrealistic moment. For the first time in his life, his father showed some interest in his life. And he told him he was proud of him. And to this day, his dad feels proud of him for being a WWE superstar.
