A long time ago, in 2005, Dwayne Johnson sat for an interview with Playboy. This was two or three years after debuting as The Scorpion King in The Mummy Returns in 2001. However, the WWE star turned actor once shared his views on why Hulk Hogan and other wrestlers were not finding success in the acting world.
The host asked DJ, “Hulk Hogan and other wrestlers failed at movies. Why?”
DJ replied without insulting the 2-time WWE Hall of Famer. He said, “I’m not sure. I know what was important to me—choosing good material, studying, making sure everybody knew I wasn’t in it for the paycheck. I’m not too sure if Hogan and those other wrestlers did that.”
Prior to The Rock making it into Hollywood, wrestlers like Hulk Hogan, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Terry Funk, Jesse Ventura, etc. They all made a name for themselves in acting but haven’t matched the success of Johnson in Hollywood.
However, Hogan has a memorable role in Rocky III with Sylvester Stallone as Thunderlips. Furthermore, Ventura co-starred with Arnold Schwarzenegger in several movies in the 80s i.e Predator and The Running Man.
Nevertheless, DJ rules Hollywood as the only WWE superstar who has made massive success in both fields. Additionally, in the past few years, his stock as an actor has only seen an upward arrow.
