However, the critical review wasn’t great, but the fans loved Black Adam. Shockingly, the box office run wasn’t the same as DC and The Rock expected it would be.
Is Black Adam is a box office flop?
Recently, Variety shared a report in which they stated Black Adam was a box office flop after it fails to earn more than what it spent. It was a major project by DCEU and Dwayne Johnson that, “didn’t come cheap, costing $195 million to produce.”
Additionally, the film had a marketing budget of $100 million. However, because of the COVID-related box office limitations, the studio pushed back the global marketing budget to $80 million.
Therefore, according to the report, Black Adam had to earn $600 million to earn a massive profit from the film.
Unfortunately, the movie hasn’t been able to cross the $400 million benchmark. As of this writing, the comic book character’s film stands at $387 million after its unexpected opening in the Japanese market.
The Rock’s portrayal as the Teth Adam star was seen as a change in the “hierarchy of power”. However, it doesn’t seem the case now as $400 million looks tough after a few experts called it could achieve $450 million.
Black Adam had a stellar opening of $67 million in the opening week. Johnson’s DCEU debut film outranked Shazam, which had an opening of $53.5 million.
Sadly, it came close to leaving Aquaman behind, as Jason Momoa’s film opened at $67.8 million in its first week.
