John Cena returned to WWE on the recent SmackDown episode to have a match in 2022. He got a standing ovation from the crowd. But previously when he teamed with Becky Lynch in 2019, they left the fans in a state of shock.
The 16-time world champion and Becky Lynch had a mixed tag team match in 2019. Lynch pushed him out of the ring, so she could pin the opponent and take the win for them. Irrespective of this, like a true sportsman, Cena praised her.

In January 2019, Cena and Becky Lynch faced the team of Andrade Cien Almas and Zelina Vega on SmackDown. Even though ‘The Man’ was not respectful to him, ‘The Cenation Leader’ praised her in an after-the-match WWE exclusive interview.
The F9 star said, “When Becky Lynch came out there and not only staked her claim, but said, ‘listen, if I’ve gotta go through you to get it, I’ll get it done.’”
He added, “I looked into her eyes and I know she meant it and that’s very rare. I hope the other WWE superstars regardless of gender were paying attention to the attitude of Becky Lynch.”

The Man was at a higher point in her career in 2019. Cena knew that, so instead of taking away her momentum, he rather praised her. With this one step by Lynch surely took her career to the next level in the coming weeks of 2019.

John Cena saw his younger self in Becky Lynch after that match
Lynch’s actions on that SmackDown episode shocked everyone. Cena had already become a legend in 2019, therefore she should have been respectful to him. However, ‘Super Cena’ had a different point, saying a younger version of him would have done that.

Cena said, “Sometimes you gotta announce your presence with authority. So, that’s not the way I do things sometimes, but that’s the way a young John Cena would’ve done it for sure. And that’s kind of why, even with all that stuff that happened out there.”
The Peacemaker star added, “’I thought I was doing good then I was thrown out of the ring by Becky and then she ended up getting the win. I would’ve done the same thing,”

The Doctor of Thuganomics version of Cena was someone else. He had ‘Ruthless Aggression’ back then, which later turned into Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect as he grew in WWE. If we recall John Cena’s debut, he did a similar thing with Kurt Angle, what Lynch did to him, i.e. disrespect a legend.
