Fastlane 2023 kicked off with a huge bang at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Indianapolis, Indiana. The PLE started off strong with the Tag Team Titles on the line, with Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso taking on Finn Balor and Damian Priest. A match that had fans excited was set to deliver what was promised before they noticed something.

Two IndyCars placed near large pyros

The most visible set decoration at Fastlane was the two IndyCars set beside the entrance. Wrapped in the colours of the show, these were placed to show the collaboration between the WWE and the NTT IndyCar Series.

Despite being a great decoration piece, fans were worried about the cars being so close to the pyros. WWE and Triple H are known to go all out on the Pyros. This is especially true for stars like Rhodes, Roman Reigns, etc.

Taking to social media, fans posted their grievances about the set decorations. Many claimed that it could result in a dangerous situation. Some even asked why they would use cars which could explode due to the intense heat from the pyro.

Despite the grievances, the WWE is aware of the safety hazards around using indoor Pyro. We believe they had the audience’s safety in mind when setting up the stage. The cars were props with no fuel, but the WWE has released no official statement.

WWE’s disaster with pyro going wrong

One of the most recent incidents of pyro going wrong was at the Royal Rumble 2022, where the sign was set on fire. WWE’s Pyro is known to be large and dramatic, this is why they mostly try to keep the firework kind and not the constant flames. There were incidents where the flames were so hot the fans in the front row could feel it.

The most tragic and memorable incident with Pyro happened to The Undertaker at the 2010 Elimination Chamber. During his entrance, Taker accidentally stepped on one of the Pyro nozzles, which blasted him with flames. Thanks to his long coat, he was saved from third-degree burns. After getting into the chamber, Taker was seen dousing himself with bottles of water.
