Black Adam was the passion project that Dwayne Johnson made possible because of the people in DC. But now, as Johnson mentioned, the hierarchy there has changed, and they are happy with him. Not only that Black Adam was projected as a tremendous deal, but Johnson also promised fans a lot. During the movie’s promotion, Johnson went all out with his promises.

In the end, he was able to fulfill one of them. He brought Henry Cavill back to the DCEU and possibly guaranteed fans the highly anticipated Man of Steel 2. But that was a possibility before James Gunn and Peter Safran became the heads at DC. And from all the reports released following Wonder Woman 3’s cancellation, this plan also seems to crumble.

Dwayne Johnson might be on the chopping block at DC HQ

In a report from the Hollywood Reporter, it was reported that DC heads didn’t like the marketing for Black Adam. It said, “Johnson hoped to carve out his own piece of the DC pie. But multiple sources say his playing up of a returning Cavill and his own involvement with DC may not be endearing him to the new management.“

“Johnson and Cavill are both managed by Dany Garcia, who is also Johnson’s producing partner. The perception of Adam turning a profit or not is a conflagration now being waged in public, with Johnson tweeting the movie would net over $50 million after a Variety story said the movie would lose over $50 million theatrically.”

One possible hopeful outcome would have been if Black Adam could break even and make some profit. But the zoomed-in lens on the box office results on Adam has made that nearly impossible. It would be one hell of a battle for Johnson to get Black Adam 2 approved after its disappointing box office record. But despite its monetary value, the movie delivered at every level that Johnson promised during the promotion for the movie.
