WWE is quite volatile in its creative plans. They are currently juggling many experiments at once. But the only thing that will probably be a constant is Cody Rhodes’ spot as a top-tier figure in the company. Cody Rhodes rose after a massive push immediately following his second WWE stint last year. From a mid-carder to a WrestleMania main eventer, The American Nightmare has carved out an exceptional path for himself so far.

Although he is yet to get his most fitting prize in the company, it looks like it’s approaching rapidly.

The Rock’s sensational return at last week’s SmackDown was met with a groundbreaking response from all spheres of wrestling. The masses of Colorado were caught off-guard as The Great One made a style entry to the ring to get on the nerves of a cocksure Austin Theory. After the opening segment ended with a predicted victory by Dwayne Johnson alongside Pat McAfee against the former US Champion, he also had a magical reunion with former foe John Cena.

Too many cheers for fans at a time, isn’t it? It certainly is, and with this, the very obvious question looms: what spot is WWE thinking of offering The Rock next? Some even wonder if he will replace Cody Rhodes’ in the business. But to their delight, he won’t.

WWE higher-ups seem to be at a standstill in their pre-decided approach to Rhodes. A backstage report suggested they treat Rhodes as a priority as of now and in the near future and The Rock’s won’t be a factor in it. While both Cena and Johnson’s returns are huge news for the promotion and fans alike, Rhodes remains WWE’s top gun.

However, it’s merely a vague update, keeping several directions open for Rhodes.

What the ‘priority’ tag can bring for Cody Rhodes’ future

The priority factor seemingly implies that the company might finally take steps to put Rhodes in his ultimate dream brawl and let him stand tall. A WrestleMania 40 between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns has been in the rumors mill already. With the recent news reconfirming the lesser chance of The Rock to get into the WrestleMania main event picture, the possibility looks more poised.

However, this is still not locked. There’s always a place for alternatives with Rhodes going after the World Heavyweight Championship instead of the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, as he already teased Rollins for it. In that case, we have to wait longer to see Cody Rhodes kiss the prize of his late father’s dream and enjoy the fruits of his prolonged wait.

We don’t really see right now exactly what’s coming for The American Nightmare and what the word ‘priority’ brings to him. But whatever it is, he will not get snubbed back-footed for sure.
