The Road to WrestleMania 40 has officially begun. A lot has happened since the 2024 Royal Rumble. CM Punk has been declared injured. Dwayne Johnson is set to take Cody Rhodes’ spot at WrestleMania 40, and the list goes on. Amidst all this chaos, one star that had slipped from everyone’s mind is Drew McIntyre. The star has been particularly happy since the news of Punk’s injury came out. While we are just a couple of months away from the Show of the Shows, here are two reasons why fans could see Drew McIntyre as the main event star at WrestleMania 40, Night 1.

Everybody gets to settle their score

It has been heavily rumored that Punk was supposed to be facing Seth Rollins on Night 1 of WrestleMania 40. While he is out now due to an injury, the word around town is that Cody Rhodes might be the one to face Rollins. However, following the recent backlash, WWE might reconsider this decision and hence, might not move forward with Cody Rhodes vs Seth Rollins. This leaves the floor open for Drew McIntyre.

Everybody knows that McIntyre has a score to settle with Rollins. The Scottish Warrior has blamed the faces, especially Rollins for his downfall. While that is the case, McIntyre has to pay some dues to Sami Zayn as well. The star had injured Zayn back in December 2023. When Zayn returned for the 2024 Royal Rumble, he was quite angry and attacked McIntyre first.

It could be possible that when McIntyre challenges Rollins for a WrestleMania match, Zayn might interrupt calling out the star for injuring him. He might also say that he will not let McIntyre win and wants his revenge. Zayn might not agree to a qualifier match and this could set the stage for a Triple Threat Match for WrestleMania 40.

While the storyline does advocate for him having his main event moment, there is one more reason why Drew McIntyre should fight with Rollins at WrestleMania.

Drew McIntyre deserves it

The last time the 38-year-old star was at the main event of WrestleMania was back in 2020. The star went toe-to-toe with Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship title. McIntyre was able to defeat The Beast Incarnate after some struggle and became the champion. However, that was it for The Scottish Psychopath. Even though he was a part of many WrestleManias before and after, he was never at the main event.

In the current run, McIntyre has been portraying a heel and he is doing it in a very convincing way. Fans have been loving his heel persona and it would be a shame if he doesn’t get his main event moment at the WrestleMania 40. On top of that, the momentum of his story has been going great and if WWE misses the chance, it might take years for them to build the same momentum.
