Fans across the world love watching Mike Tyson in a boxing ring. He’s one of the most dominant boxers of his generation and set a precedent for the future of the sport. However, Tyson didn’t confine himself to the sport of boxing. As ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ made some memorable appearances in the world of pro wrestling as well. WWE fans have fond memories of Stone Cold’s face-off against Iron Mike on RAW in the lead-up to WrestleMania XIV and then his significant role at the event. However, fans might not know that Tyson made appearances at even smaller wrestling conventions.
Mick Foley shares a fond memory of Mike Tyson
WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley shared a story about Mike Tyson’s appearance at a smaller wrestling convention in California, back in 2006 or 2007. In a recent episode of Foley is Pod, ‘Mankind’ recollected how Tyson was afraid of going into the ring for the first time. Despite his numerous achievements in the boxing circuit, Tyson was not confident in himself.

Foley said, “Here’s one of the most recognizable faces on the planet. (He’s) been in some of the biggest boxing matches ever and he’s nervous about just going into the ring at a wrestling convention.”

Moreover, Tyson had a strange request for the organizer of the convention, Sal Correnti. Foley stated, “Sal comes up and goes ‘Uh…We’ve got a Tyson problem.”
Iron Mike needed some help to get into the flow
Mick Foley was acquainted with the boxing legend by this point. However, ‘Mankind’ admits they weren’t friends or anything. But Tyson specifically requested the organizer to ask Foley to step inside the ring with him.

This is probably because Tyson was afraid to go out there all by himself, to face the crowd. Even though Tyson saw much bigger crowds in his career, he needed a little push to face wrestling enthusiasts in California.

In the same episode, Foley recalled “Mike said he won’t come out to the ring unless you’re with (him)…I only met Mike one other time,” and added “And so I went to the ring with Mike but then once he got in the ring, he was in his element.”
