The world of pro wrestling always tries to amaze its audience with new things. Many of the pro wrestling events are riff-raff with experimental things. While some things miss their mark, some of them become a huge hit and keep the audience hooked. However, the creative team sometimes drops some ideas due to a lack of feasibility. A street fight between Mike Tyson and Chris Jericho was one such idea.

Chris Jericho recently revealed that he had almost had a street fight with boxing icon Mike Tyson back in the day but the plans were later dropped.

Jericho reveals interesting details about a match with Mike Tyson

Chris Jericho wrestled some of the most dynamic matches in WWE. He was a semi-high-flier, a striker, and a submission expert. He combined various fighting styles to take make himself a stand-out talent in WWE. He had many memorable matches in the promotion before he moved to AEW. Although he had run-ins with Mike Tyson in WWE, Jericho came close to having a match with Iron Mike in AEW.

Fightful.com covered the statement Jericho made on the AEW-some podcast. Jericho said, “Mike Tyson and I almost had a cinematic match. We were this close to doing it, Tyson vs. Jericho in a New York Street Fight.” Jericho also unveiled that there were a lot of discussions about the idea. “We really were deep in negotiations too,” noted Y2J.

However, Chris Jericho disappointedly added that the team could not go through with it. He further said, “We were going to do it in New York in an alley, like an alley fight, basically. Think ‘They Live’ with Tyson and Jericho, that’s what I had in mind.”

This would have been another mega-hit event involving boxing giant Mike Tyson had it gone through. The boxing legend has given several iconic moments to the AEW audience.

Mike Tyson is arguably one of the most well-known and feared figures in boxing. The legend is often compared with greats like Muhammad Ali. Tyson has recently been making special appearances on AEW.

While the creative team failed to go through with the street fight, Tyson made some notable appearances for Tony Khan’s promotion.

Tyson showed up in AEW in May 2020, to confront Jericho and The Inner Circle. The boxer was accompanied by UFC fighters Rashad Evans, Vitor Belfort, Henry Cejudo, and others.

Chris Jericho and Mike Tyson teamed up in the AEW ring in April 2021. The ferocious boxer helped Jericho face off against his nemesis, The Pinnacle. The Inner Circle rewarded Mike Tyson for his action and made him an honorary member.
