Vince and his team pulled in, the boxing legend “Iron” Mike Tyson to participate in the build-up to WrestleMania 14. Tyson’s appearance at the Show of Shows was a memorable moment. Moreover, Hulk Hogan believes that it was the defining moment for WWE, starting its quest of outlasting the competition in terms of television ratings. He spoke about the same during a recent interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour.

Hogan continued, “Some guys getting full of themselves and didn’t wanted to bring their boots to the arena … I rather talk than wrestle buzz kill, that kinda stuff which doesn’t work … there were a lot of factors but that was definitely the nail in the coffin when Mike came in … that was a monster.”
Mike Tyson’s appearance proved to be a major hit for WWE’s annual show. Hulk Hogan stated that while Tyson’s appearance at WrestleMania was the final nail in the coffin, he believed that many other factors also contributed to WCW’s downfall.
What was Mike Tyson’s role in WrestleMania 14?
The boxing legend, Mike Tyson made a huge name for himself during the mid-1990s. That prompted Vince McMahon to bring him in, in an attempt to win back the TV ratings. Tyson was inserted into the Stone Cold Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels rivalry. The duo was slated to compete for the WWE Championship in the main event of WrestleMania 14.

The road to WrestleMania saw Mike Tyson joining forces with Michaels, who held the WWE title at the time. Furthermore, he was appointed as the Special Guest Enforcer for the match. However, the fans witnessed a major shocker at the event. Tyson turned on Shawn and sided with Austin, leading him to win his first World championship.
That night was the crowning of Steve Austin as the next poster boy and seemingly kick started the Attitude Era. The era proved to be a major success that defeated and put WCW out of business in 2001.
