Dwayne Johnson is a man of great taste. He revealed his appreciation for agave nectar to his people in 2020 by launching his own tequila company, Teremana Tequila. Soon enough, his company became one of his cash cows, fetching him millions. However, Johnson has some serious competition now, as boxing legend Canelo is launching his own tequila brand.
Although the market for tequila is big in The United States, fans often prefer buying celebrity-backed products. That said, it all comes down to who has greater influence and star power, Canelo Alvarez or Dwayne Johnson?

Boxing legend Canelo Alvarez is ready to launch a variety of ready-to-drink cocktails that are tequila-based. His company, VMC, caters to the Mexican-American demographic in the market. VMC stands for Viva Mexico Cabrones. The phrase pays homage to the vibrant Mexican heritage, signifying “Long Live Mexico, Dudes!”
The drink is available in three delectable flavors namely, Margarita, Jamaica Hibiscus, and Paloma. The multi-time World Champion launched the product with a beautiful message saying, “Our roots bring us to where we all are at the moment. It is that same spirit that will take us to where we want to go.”
The brand was first launched in Mexico. Unsurprisingly, it became very popular among Canelo fans. The creation of Canelo, Spirit of Gallo, and Casa Lumbre is now set to take The US market by storm. Given the increasingly growing Hispanic population in The United States, the brand is guaranteed to succeed. After all, Mexican Americans are the second-largest population in The United States.
Furthermore, Canelo’s label presents a significant challenge to Dwayne Johnson’s Teremana Tequila. Although Johnson has garnered a substantial consumer base, the question arises whether Canelo’s VMC will surpass the popularity of Teremana Tequila.
Regardless, Dwayne Johnson’s tequila company celebrated a massive milestone earlier this year, having sold 1 million cases annually. Despite the success, it was recently reported that Teremana Tequila failed to make it to the top ten list of most-sold tequilas in the market.

In fact, Teremana Tequila’s Blanco dropped down to the 12th spot. Additionally, the label’s reposado stands at the 15th spot. The new top ten list includes brands such as Cazcanes, Aldez, Tequila Alquimia, Wild Common, Tequila Cascahuin, Casa del Sol, Royal Emblem, Flecha Azul, Z Pepe, and Mijenta.
