We can all agree that The Undertaker was one of the rarest talents that worked in WWE. This uniqueness brought him great acclaim because no one could do the things The Undertaker was able to do. Not only did his fame last over 3 decades, but also his influence seeped down to the wrestlers of today. But there was another talent before him that changed the game for all giants, and that was Andre the Giant.

Andre the Giant is a man who made a name for himself before WWE/WWF was even a big thing, but he helped the company in its infancy. After Vince McMahon started WrestleMania, his main events included only celebrities. He wanted the show to have the mainstream eyes on it, but this meant that wrestling wasn’t the attraction, but the ones in the audience were. However, this changed in WrestleMania 3, where his biggest match included Hulk Hogan slamming down the 7’4″ tall Andre the Giant to win the main event.

When asked about who was a bigger attraction in WWE between Andre and The Undertaker, the three times ‘Mr. USA’, Tony Atlas said, “Andre was a bigger attraction. Because of the difference between Andre and Taker, Taker had to work very, very hard. Now Andre had to work, but Taker had to earn his status. Andre had his own when walked through that door. Andre did not have to work as hard to become as popular. People came to see him. That was his attraction.

He continued, “You had a thousand people that looked like The Undertaker. You can’t find anybody that looked like Andre, not even today. He was like someone you see now or you never see again.” Then he was asked who would he choose to headline, and he said, “To headline? The Undertaker. Because with Andre the match would be of 5 minutes, but with the Undertaker it would be 20 3o minutes of entertainment. People get more for their money.

Clearly, neither Taker nor Andre’s influence could be compared to each other. But although Andre might have been the standard for all giants to come later, there is no one like The Undertaker then, now, or forever.
