Apart from being a WWE star and a Hollywood icon, John Cena is also known for being a fitness guru. The star who happens to have a degree in Exercise Physiology has talked about physical fitness on multiple occasions. However, one thing in particular that he was against is WWE’s Wellness Policy.

The policy, which was incorporated by the company in 2006, screens the stars for health issues and any steroid use. Speaking of steroid use, veteran bodybuilder Ronnie Coleman believes that the Leader of the Cenation did make use of performance-enhancing drugs during his time at WWE. Could this mean Cena’s criticism of the wellness policy was due to this?

Talking with Ranveer Allahbadia, host of the BeerBiceps podcast, Coleman was asked to dissect the truth about whether prominent athletes have ever used steroids. One name that did pop up was John Cena’s name. Upon being asked whether Coleman believes that Cena used steroids, he said yes. Yeah. I think somewhere along the way, he took a little something.” Coleman said earlier in the interview that with his experience in the industry, he can make out whether someone has ever used steroids. Although it might not always be accurate, it is true most of the time.

He also added that Cena might not have used steroids extensively. Giving his example, the eight-time Mr. Olympia stated that he used to go on ‘cycles’. A cycle meant that he used to take performance-enhancing drugs for a period of seven months and then used to take a break for five months. He believes Cena might have done the same.

“He probably only does it for two or three months out of the year,” said Coleman stating that as Cena only occasionally takes his shirt off, he might not be in extensive need of it.

The statement by Coleman might not exactly be true as stated by him multiple times during the episode. However, this might be the reason why Cena was against the WWE Wellness Policy back in 2010.

Cena and WWE’s Wellness Policy

Back in February 2006, WWE decided to enlist a wellness policy following the death of beloved WWE star, Eddie Guerrero. According to the policy, the talents will be randomly tested for drug or alcohol use along with a physical fitness check-up. The policy was strict and stars were even penalized or suspended if they failed the testing. However, John Cena was not a fan of this policy by WWE. John Cena, who started off his career as a bodybuilder, stated in an interview back in 2010 that he believed the policy was unnecessary.

He stated that WWE stars are nothing but performers as they fall under the entertainment industry. The Peacemaker star also stated that WWE does not fall under the category of organized athletics and thus the need for a wellness policy is baseless. However, he did commend WWE for looking out for their employees. Do you think John Cena used steroids during his time at WWE?
