Dwayne Johnson has made a successful brand out of his name. The former wrestler did not stick to just one industry but aimed at becoming the ‘jack of all trades’. This led The Rock to enter the sports world, apart from pro wrestling. It all started with the Hollywood star buying XLF, reviving the football league, and finally relaunching it this year with a new season.

But the struggles were far from over. Among a big market of pre-established sports leagues, XFL found it hard to survive and suffered a grand loss which Johnson shared with ex-wife and business partner Dany Garcia. Among all his other business moves to recover from the loss, Johnson is eyeing college basketball star Angel Reese too.

Although he couldn’t accomplish his collegiate sports passion of joining the NFL, Johnson never lost his love for sports. After starting XFL, Johnson also went on to launch an annual NIL program. This program features several top college-level athletes, from a variety of sports. Among many other talented names, he also signed Angel Reese, who is a basketball player for LSU Tigers women’s division.

The female athlete has already started using her status to strike herself great deals. Back in February, Reese struck a deal with the fashion brand ‘Coach’. Before the Tigers faced Texas A&M, she gifted each of her teammates a ‘Coach’ bag, as a sign of appreciation.

This could’ve helped escalate the fashion brand’s sales for their products. In a similar way, collegiate basketball talent could also help The Rock.

Reese could promote one of Johnson’s various projects. Taking his energy drink, ZOA, as an example, the basketball player could attract a huge customer base and several business deals for the company. This would help escalate Johnson’s recovery from the loss he faced due to XFL.

What is the deal with Dwayne Johnson and his XFL loss?

Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia acquired the bankrupt football league for $15 Million in 2020. After full preparations and planning, the team launched XFL’s third reboot in 2023. Although there were plenty of supporters, the first season still didn’t stand out among other major leagues going on.

All of this accounted for a grave loss of $60 Million by the end of the season. However, he is moving ahead with new strategies that may save the league in the coming season. He has also stated that he is in it for the long haul and sees XFL as a long-term investment and has strategies in place to advance the league.
