One of the most unsatisfying moments for WWE fans was seeing Cody Rhodes lose at WrestleMania 39. But that was nothing compared to the shocked faces of his fans on the Raw after ‘Mania. Brock Lesnar put Rhodes through the beating of a lifetime. Thus setting up a match between the two popular stars at Backlash.

Fans anticipated a hard-fought match with Rhodes expected to bounce back from his WrestleMania loss. This was the moment that would define Rhodes’ WWE career moving forward. But the ending of their match at Backlash left a lot to be desired.

The Backlash main event that got everyone talking

While no one thought Rhodes to be aggressive from the beginning, people loved the beginning sequence where Rhodes beat up Lesnar with a bunch of foreign objects. But the Beast was able to take control pretty easily, despite Rhodes trying his hardest to put down the former WWE Champion. After one turnbuckle getting exposed, Rhodes took the opportunity and used it to his advantage.

This made the Beast shockingly bleed profusely, getting his blood everywhere in the ring. Even then, he wasn’t going to throw away the match and locked Rhodes in a Kimura Lock, famous for breaking Shawn Michaels’ arm. But instead of getting out of it, Rhodes pushed him down and won the match. But fans weren’t pleased with a sudden and underwhelming finish and duly expressed their anger over it on Twitter.

Although the fan favorite Rhodes won the match, the manner of his win disappointed fans. This isn’t the first time that a babyface’s fluke victory has boiled fans’ anger toward the momentum of the most popular babyface in the company. A similar thing happened with Liv Morgan after she won in an exact manner in her match with Ronda Rousey. Could history be repeating itself?
