Is Malakai Black's return to WWE the boost the company needs right now?

Contract confusion has been a recurring theme in WWE for the last few months. A host of superstars have been on the verge of breaking their ties with the Stamford-based company due to their contract expiries. While many of them were highly speculated to jump ship to the rival promotion to explore a new career path, an exact opposite picture has also been in the play. There has been a popular belief that the former AEW Trios Champion Malakai Black will eventually dip his feet into Triple H’s promotion as he has been in the good graces of Triple H.

Last year in October, The Anti-Hero resumed his AEW career following a long hiatus. However, murmurs of his presence in WWE in the future continued to gain traction. The 39-year-old underwent a severe leg injury and was written off from AEW TV for some time. His misery didn’t end there as he made another acute observation. The wrestler noted that he hadn’t been featured in any one-to-one match in the company since June 2022 and didn’t even know why. The injury was too minor for him to be caged into the tag team division for so long. This glimpse of differences from the AEW authority led to the idea that WWE might be a better place for Black.

Now, with the contract bond getting much looser, Dave Meltzer from Wrestling Observer Newsletter sees a clear transition for the former NXT star even if he’s not sure about Miro and Keith Lee.

The reflective information reads, “You gotta remember WWE did get rid of all those guys, I don’t know that they would take Keith Lee back, I don’t know that they won’t. Malakai I would strongly presume they would, I could easily see him going back.”

Black has been one of the iconic stars in AEW since his debut in 2021. He is currently turning the tide as the leader of The House of Black faction and has featured in some intense storylines including a match with Adam Copeland for the TNT Championship at AEW Double or Nothing. There had been huge anticipation and buzz surrounding the high-stake bout to see how Black would hold his ground against the R-rated superstar. Although the Netherland native failed to defeat Copeland, he continued to gain momentum.

Now, during the build-up of the All In, a recent episode of AEW Collision, the 39-year-old showed up in a backstage promo alongside his partner, Brody King. Malakai announced that The House of Black will initiate its foundation for Wembley next week.
