AEW Revolution ended with Sting and Darby Allin retaining their Tag Team titles against The Young Bucks. After one of the most hardcore matches of the night with some insane spots, Sting finally retired from wrestling a champion. This led to the onset of questions about his time in AEW during the post-event media scrum. During one of these questions, Tony Khan revealed that he threw some shade at the WWE while convincing Sting to join AEW.

Tony Khan promised Sting better treatment than the WWE

During the media scrum, the first question asked to both Sting and Khan was the usage of legends in AEW. This question referred to Khan hiring icons of the business and how he used them in the company. Taking the lead to answer it, Sting recounted the talk he had with Khan prior to signing on. The Icon claimed that he loved everything about AEW before he joined. Moreover, Khan offered him a contract much to his delight. Sting started by telling what Khan had told him, “I’m gonna make sure that you retire the right way, that you’re gonna go out the right way. I don’t like the way you were treated over here or there… You will not be treated like that here.”

The conversation took place while Sting was part of the WWE. From 2014 to 2020, Sting debuted and worked in the WWE. Despite having some memorable feuds with The Authority and Seth Rollins, fans felt his run didn’t amount to its full potential. Sting went on to say, “Then WWE was never fully there for me.” The AEW head honcho did mention before the interview that he did not offer Sting any control over his career in AEW. Khan claimed that the Stinger never pushed for anything in AEW. Moreover, he planned out every bit of success Sting has had.

Prior to The Icon joining Khan, he said, “He’s one of the most unselfish people and time and time again, it’s shone, and at times, frankly, people have taken advantage of this.” This could be another dig at the WWE for botching Sting’s run in the company. Sting’s farewell is trending on social media as one of the best sendoffs a wrestler could have ever asked for. What did you think of Sting’s last match?
