After a long time, WWE is facing resistance towards its monopoly of the professional wrestling business. AEW, financed by Tony Khan and creatively helmed by bright minds like Cody Rhodes, The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega is slowly but steadily, building itself as a a viable alternative.

For those who think that WWE is too big of a fish to be bothered by a novice promotion, Vince McMahon has given the responsibility of colliding with AEW to his most trusted soldier. That’s none other than his son in law Triple H.

In the overall battle, AEW has consistently clocked in better ratings. More than that, it has become a haven for those Superstars who are frustrated with WWE. AEW has made big coups this far in the form of WWE legend Chris Jericho and Shield original Dean Ambrose, now known as Jon Moxley.

However, is AEW a threat to WWE where it hurts the most. I’m talking about the financial side of the battle.

Triple H attempted to answer this question in a publically available shareholder meeting.

“To me, there’s a moment in time when you begin something and it’s very exciting and it’s fresh and there’s some interest in it, certainly. But it’s a big world. We continue to be focused on our product, continue to be focused on the development of our stars and our performers. And as Vince said earlier, we have a very long track record of doing this incredibly successfully for many, many, many years, and we will continue to do so.”

Recently, WWE lost a major TV deal to AEW in Italy. Even though Triple H might not be willing to acknowledge it, AEW has started making inroads into WWE’s business.

If you compare AEW’s recent TV ratings with Raw, the margin isn’t as huge as it used to be once. The message from the fans is clear and simple. At the end of the day, they own the market.
