"Is Tony Khan's AEW turning into a circus with wrestlers like Mercedes Moné calling the shots?"

Amidst her rumors of returning to the American wrestling circuit from Japan, several fans were afraid that Mercedes Mone was going to sign with AEW instead. Their fears came to life when she showed up at AEW Dynamite: Big Business. Several factors must have motivated her to join Tony Khan and the rest of his roster. However, one thing that stood out was the money that she was being offered.

Since then, the online wrestling fanbase has targeted her along with the rest of the AEW roster as usual. There are different subjects that fans like to pick up on and attack Mone for. TMZ recently had the opportunity to interview The CEO while she was out in public with her AEW TBS Title. And they discovered something interesting about her role at AEW. The interviewer asked Mone whether she had creative control in the promotion. Pointing to her championship, Mone said, “I got this. I think just every single week you gotta watch. Yes, I have creative control, but I work with Tony Khan very closely; so it’s a great combo.

When this announcement went viral on X, fans thought it best to call out the former WWE star for undermining her ability to book and Tony Khan for giving her some form of control over the creatives, not learning from the past mistakes of other companies.

Wrestling fans chastize Tony Khan for repeating the mistake of WCW

Seven Bucks Productions helped in the production of Vice’s Who Killed WCW docuseries. There are many angles that the series is exploring regarding how WWE’s former competitor drowned despite having a good head start. One reason for this downfall, which a wrestling legend pointed out a couple of years ago, was the fact that the employers had given creative control to the employees. Fans see the same thing happening in AEW.

Mercedes Mone’s statement did not make a lot of fans happy, but this one in particular appears to be doubting her creative skills greatly. The confession clarifies that the user who wrote the comment was glad that they didn’t have to watch the promotion again.

Have an interesting take?

Here’s a wrestling fan who pointed out the parallel that is getting drawn between WCW and AEW. Although Tony Khan probably hasn’t given every wrestler the same amount of creative control, the interview was enough for fans to be repulsed by this decision.

This is also something that AEW has been previously accused of. Time and again, Tony Khan has been called out for not being in charge of the decisions over the wrestlers and getting controlled by the talents that he has hired for the roster.

For most of his time during WCW, Hulk Hogan was in charge of a lot of creative decisions. This created a lot of chaos in the workplace as not every wrestler wished to work according to the legend’s ideas. Someone on the internet pointed out how Mone could be AEW’s Hogan.

Here we have some good old sarcastic comments about how the same decision worked for WCW and should also work for AEW. The viewer who commented also believes that Khan probably lists creative control in the contracts that he offers to certain stars. This could attract them to the promotion even more, but may not be beneficial for AEW in the longer run.
