Is Tony Khan's issue with Bobby Lashley and MVP justified, or is he overreacting?

A few days ago, it was reported that MVP, Bobby Lashley, and Tamina are no longer a part of the WWE’s internal roster and that, in addition, Lashley’s contract with the company expires very soon. Shortly after, MVP hinted at his departure from WWE on social media. As reported by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE is working on the assumption that Bobby Lashley and MVP will leave the Stamford-based promotion for Tony Khan’s All Elite Wrestling. Although it is not yet sure that both superstars will make it to All Elite Wrestling, the possibility is on the table, and with Shelton Benjamin being a free agent, the options increase.

PWInsider added that Lashley and MVP are expected to leave once their respective contracts expire, but a WWE source stressed that everything can change in the company at any moment, so nothing is official. In Bobby’s case, Pro Wrestling Nexus has been able to confirm that his contract with WWE ends on August 10. In addition, a WWE veteran has revealed that Tony Khan might not necessarily be interested in having Bobby Lashley and MVP in their ranks. But why would someone reject a talent like Lashley? Well, here’s what Hall of Famer Booker T had to share.

In his latest edition of the ‘Hall of Fame with Booker T and Brad Gilmore’ podcast, Booker T revealed that he believes Tony Khan would not hire Bobby Lashley in AEW. Despite Lashley’s history of proving himself on the grand stage, according to the Hall of Famer, Lashley lacks the nostalgia value that other WWE signings carried with them. The Hardy Boyz are arguably the greatest high-flying duo in pro wrestling history, while CM Punk and Daniel Bryan shaped the modern definition of top-tier champions.

Something that Lashley lacks, according to Booker T. He said, “I could be wrong on this. But MVP and Bobby is not the guy that’s on Tony Khan’s radar.” When asked for the reason, he replied, “Nostalgia.” He further adds, Oh, man, the Hardys were the high flyers. Who else is CM Punk? You couldn’t pass up on that just because. Bryan Danielson. You couldn’t pass up on Bryan Danielson. He’s one of those guys that, you know, changed the way of the wrestling world with this yes movement and stuff. I got to get a guy like that. Tony Khan is like playing with action figures. You think that those are the action figures that he’s going to be looking for?”

It is being speculated that Bobby Lashley and MVP are planning a special creative plan for when they make their debut in All Elite Wrestling. To add fuel to the fire on this idea, another WWE superstar posted a photo on his official X account that hints at him leaving the WWE as well. So what is the plan?

Bobby Lashley and MVP could recreate The Hurt Business in AEW

WWE’s former faction, The Hurt Business, featuring Bobby Lashley, MVP, Cedric Alexander, and Shelton Benjamin, left an important mark on WWE. Elevating each member’s career and amassing a large fan base. Despite its success, the faction disbanded in 2021. Much to the disappointment of fans. However, rumors are now circulating that the group could reform in AEW after the more than possible early departures of Bobby Lashley and WWE MVP.

Roman Reigns himself felt that the faction’s split was premature, a sentiment shared by Bobby Lashley, who described the disbandment as something that “hurt his heart.” Many fans shared this disappointment, especially after MVP recently claimed that Triple H refused to revive The Hurt Business, sparking considerable controversy. On Wrestling Observer Radio, it was reported that Lashley and MVP are expected to leave WWE to reform The Hurt Business in AEW.

They also reported that MVP and Lashley would like to bring in Shelton Benjamin, a former member of the group who is a free agent after being released by WWE last September, to reform the group in AEW. Cedric Alexander also posted a photo of the group on his official X account. However, it is unknown if Cedric Alexander will end his contract with WWE soon. What do you think? Will the group be a part of AEW soon? Let us know in the comments.
