Tony Khan must be the happiest man on the planet right now as he is heading to the new year with a big win over WWE. After a tumultuous 2023, AEW Dynamite has finally surpassed its rival company’s flagship show in terms of viewership and ratings this week. For a while now, Khan has been trying to increase his Dynamite audience viewership but couldn’t pull in sufficient numbers to beat WWE RAW. However for the first time, AEW’s Wednesday Night show has accomplished the daunting task, and the AEW President is very proud of the achievement, but there is a catch.

The tail end of the year saw AEW suffer at the hands of WWE, not only losing out to its shows in the ratings war but also losing its top talents to the Stamford-based promotion as well. But with this recent win, Tony Khan has one item ticked off his bucket list.

While AEW Dynamite has beaten Friday Night SmackDown and Tuesday Night NXT in the past, it never managed to beat RAW in terms of viewership and ratings. This week, it finally happened. Wrestlenomics recently shared a tweet depicting the viewership and ratings graph of this week.

According to the graph, Dynamite’s final show of 2023 recorded 843,000 viewers among the P18-49 demo and a rating of 0.31. Meanwhile, this week’s Raw (the Christmas edition) pulled 698,000 viewers making its rating 0.18 among the 18-40 demographics. It is pertinent to note that the December 25 edition of RAW was a best-of-the-year pre-taped show that had some segments and aired the best matches that took place in 2023.

Dynamite aired from Addition Financial Arena in Orlando, Florida on December 27 and featured a stacked card. The show saw the finals of the AEW’s Gold and Blue league in the Continental Classic. Jon Moxley triumphed over Swerve Strickland Jay White to win the Gold League final while NJPW Strong Champion Eddie Kingston beat Bryan Danielson to win the Blue League. The main event saw MJF and Samoa Joe lose the ROH tag team titles to The Devil’s masked men before Joe turned on the AEW World Champion and revealed he was working with The Devil.

On October 10 this year NXT and Dynamite went head-to-head, with WWE stacking its third brand with big names like John Cena, Cody Rhodes, and The Undertaker to come out on top. Later, AEW Dynamite would beat SmackDown in the penultimate week of November, though the shows didn’t go head to head. AEW already had wins over NXT in the “Wednesday Night Wars” from 2019 to 2021.

With the win over RAW, AEW Dynamite is finally ending the year with a victory over all three shows of WWE (RAW, SmackDown, and NXT), making it a historic win over the rival promotion. Tony Khan thanked all his fans for their love and support for this amazing accomplishment and revealed another milestone.
