AEW tickets 50% higher than WWE—Is Tony Khan out of touch with wrestling fans?

All Elite Wrestling continues to expand its brand internationally. With just five years of history, the company has managed to consolidate itself as one of the most important wrestling companies in the world, especially thanks to its roster, which has some of the best talent in the business.

Its president, Tony Khan, has been a fundamental piece for this rapid development, with special mention to England, where the brand has achieved great success as evidenced by the great reception of AEW All In London 2023 and the splendid ticket sales data for this year’s edition, which already exceed 45,000. However, a major criticism of the promotion came its way, courtesy of legendary pro wrestling manager Dutch Mantell. Mantell, along with James from the Stevie Richards show, talked about AEW on the Story Time with Dutch Mantell podcast.

And that’s when James revealed how the Jacksonville-based promotion has been selling tickets for almost double the price of what WWE charges for their events. Richards outlined the findings by saying. “WWE for first, you know like not the floor but you know the first tier the first raised bit, WWE are charging 96 pound 35. AEW are charging 150 pounds 35 for the same seat. A surprised Mantell asked, “AEW is charging more than 50%?” His co-host confirmed his suspicions by stating, “More for the exact same seats in the same building.”

Richards further added, “So in the States, I did work this out. A front-row seat for an event next month in Texas is $320 to an AEW dynamite taping. Ringside front row. Have a guess how much is in Cardiff? This is just the dynamite taping bog standard same deal. It was a dynamite taping in the States dynamite taping here. I’ll tell you what it is—about $1,000.”

Well, it surely looks like Khan is trying his best to boost ticket sales figures by selling seats for double the price. By doing so, he can match the WWE’s sales figures by selling half the number of tickets. While this strategy may help him for now, it can surely affect his promotion. Maybe that’s why he is trying to get more fans by sponsoring a soccer team.
