When it comes to Tony Khan, there’s no scarcity of gossip. The AEW boss has already been in the deep sea of controversies regarding downgraded ratings and the lingering uncertainties over a new WBD deal. To add to his misery, WWE veteran, Bully Ray, dug out one of his most controversial bookings from the recent past and deemed it a replicate of former TNA President Dixie Carter’s distinct style.

Tony Khan pulled in a massive injury angle on a recent episode of Dynamite by letting himself take a TK driver from the Young Bucks. Although Khan garnered some praise from the pro-wrestling fraternity for his skilled selling of a neck brass from the stage of the NFL Draft, WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray sees it as unauthentic.

Following a stacked main event of Dynamite, Khan and Jack Perry were having a casual conversation when all of a sudden, the Jungle Boy turned on his boss. It led to the Young Bucks rushing to the ring to calm the situation down, but to send a second shockwave to all the audiences present, they ended up delivering another blow to Khan with a TK driver. The severity of the situation forced all the roster staff and officials to come out to check on their boss and carry him backstage. Now, while this angle seemed to be pretty unique as the head honcho himself took tears to his body involving into a storyline for the very first time, he’s not the one to do it first in the pro-wrestling history. Back in 2014, Dixie Carter, former TNA head, did the same by allowing Ray to powerbomb her through a table.

Referring to the similarity of the two storylines, Bully Ray noted during the latest edition of his Busted Open Radio, ”Tony Khan’s revenge is important to this story. You can’t just allow the heels to do what they did to Tony Khan without Tony Khan getting back at the EVPs and at Jack Perry. If you just have the babyfaces go over, you have ruined your opportunity to build up to a moment. I’ve told you the story of Dixie Carter and don’t kid yourselves. This is right out of the Dixie Carter Bump Playbook, done very quickly and hopefully, they’ll slow it down.”

Ray concluded saying he wanted something passionate and more exclusive for Khan’s revenge angle. Meanwhile, this was not the first time Khan has been compared to Carter.

Vince Russo said Tony Khan and Dixie Carter are alike in more parameters

Former WWE writer Vince Russo spotted more similarities between the two chief promoters. There are very few who aren’t aware of Khan’s senseless instinct to stockpile big talents in his roster even sometimes despite not having a proper plan about how to provide them with some well-built spots. The 63-year-old WWE veteran believes Khan resembles the notable trait of the female TNA personality here as well.

In a previous interview, he noted, “Dixie was a lot like Tony Khan in this manner – she loved the idea of big names working for her. That was, like, such a big– ‘Ric Flair’s working for me. Hulk Hogan’s’– That was a really, really big deal to her.”
