Tony Khan announces purchase of Ring of Honor
No one expected this coming from the AEW president. But just like always, Khan surprised everyone by announcing that he had signed a deal that made him the new owner of ROH.
Rob Feinstein found ROH back in 2002. Back in 2011, Sinclair Broadcast Group purchased ROH from Cary Silkin. And today, Tony Khan purchased the pro wrestling promotion from Sinclair Broadcast Group.
This deal includes ROH’s video library, brand assets, production equipment, intellectual property, and more.
In a press release, the AEW president said, “Ring of Honor’s influence on modern professional wrestling is etched permanently in the history books, and this acquisition ensures that its legacy will be kept alive and treated with the utmost respect.” (H/T: Sports Illustrated)
Further, Tony Khan mentioned he will try to make the ROH’s video library available to the fans. This could enable them to see various footages of several AEW superstars during the early part of their pro wrestling careers.
Bryan Danielson and CM Punk are two such AEW superstars who had showcased their skills in ROH. Both Bryan and Punk have won the ROH World Championship once during their time in ROH. Recently, the two men also got inducted into the ROH Hall of Fame.
After this huge announcement, the AEW President scheduled a historic match between Bryan Danielson and Christopher Daniels.
Back in 2002, Bryan and Daniels competed in the first-ever ROH main event along with former WWE superstar Low Ki. However, neither of them came out on top. But this time, Bryan Danielson picked up the win over Christopher Daniels on AEW Dynamite.
