The week leading up to WrestleMania XL took a drastic turn when CM Punk first spoke about his departure from All Elite Wrestling. As a result, Tony Khan decided to air a video of the backstage fight between Punk and Jack Perry at AEW All In London.
Both gestures created shockwaves and sent the wrestling community into raptures. On the occasion of the promotion of SummerSlam, Sports Illustrated attained a chance to interview Punk. This surely was a spicy interview, to say the least, as the Second City Saint made several interesting statements.
One of the most interesting parts of the interview was when Punk was asked about his fight against Drew McIntyre. However, the question was more pointed toward McIntyre’s recent photograph with Jack Perry. So the Cult of Personality talked about the AEW All-In video. He revealed that he does not believe that showing it neither benefited AEW nor harmed it.

However, it did make him feel like the top attraction in two different companies. He said, “It’s the sh*t talk business. It’s just like fighting in the UFC. You see these guys ripping at each other, ugly press conferences, getting personal. And it’s just like I don’t necessarily enjoy that energy. But the payoff is I get to go in a ring and I get to blacken eyes and chip teeth and make Drew sob and do whatever else in my head that I hope to do to him. So it’s just, it felt really ugly.

“But then I was just like, showing that footage isn’t going to help them or hurt me. So I was just like, whatever. And being the top draw in two different companies is pretty wild. CM Punk is today one of the veterans of the WWE locker room and is surely acting as one by being a mentor to the youngest talents on the roster. There have been several reports about how Punk stops by NXT and the Performance Center on numerous occasions to train and chat with the new talents. Obviously, the former AEW star was also one of them in his day and received advice from those established at the top.

He was right.” CM Punk will return to the ring in an official match after more than six months on August 3 at SummerSlam 2024 against Drew McIntyre.
