Andrade El Idolo wrestled for the WWE from 2015 to 2021. During this time, he had a significant push from the WWE, including winning the United States Championship. Recently, taking to social media, he posted an image with CM Punk. Despite the controversy around Punk’s departure from AEW, his caption for the image was heartfelt.

On social media, El Idolo posted an image of himself and Punk backstage. The image was captioned, “Thank you @CMPunk #AEWCollision. I hope and we meet again but face to face in the ring. We have a pending match! 👊🏼❌.” While Punk and El Idolo did not cross paths in the WWE or in AEW, El Idolo was the only one to stand up for Punk during the AEW investigation.

During the AEW Collision’s investigation of Punk’s involvement with the backstage issues in AEW, El Idolo was the only person to take his side. While most of the wrestling community and wrestling-related news outlets referenced Punk’s name in the investigation, El Idolo decided to take this time to thank him. He also said that he was looking forward to a meeting in the ring.

Punk’s issues with authority and Khan’s response

Punk has never been an authority-abiding person. During his time in the WWE, he would drop the now-famous pipebomb to reveal the secrets the WWE did not want you to know. This is one of the reasons why, under Triple H’s authority, Punk may never step foot in the WWE again. Talking about AEW, Punk and Jack Perry got involved in a backstage altercation right before the Wembley Stadium event.

During the episode in Punk’s hometown of Chicago, Khan addressed the fans. Khan broke the news in a segment that mirrored Paul Heyman’s public firing of ECW’s Sabu in 1995. While talking to Sports Illustrated, WWE icon Ricky Steamboat approved this decision. Despite the initial booing following the announcement, Khan turned it into cheers. According to Steamboat, this was a massive and rare feat in the wrestling industry.
