Is Swerve Strickland the game-changer AEW needs to dominate WWE?

Swerve Strickland made history at AEW Dynasty by becoming the first African-American to win the All Elite Wrestling World Championship. With this crowning achievement, the wrestler put the finishing touch on the best stage of his professional career. One, where he has received the support and praise of the company, fans, and colleagues.

Now, Strickland is preparing for one of the most important fights of his life. The World Champion will put the title at stake at the biggest event of the year, AEW All In London, on the biggest possible stage, Wembley Stadium, and against one of the best wrestlers of his generation, Bryan Danielson, in what could be his last match.

As part of the promotion of the event, Swerve has attended some media events and has given several interviews in recent days. In one of the most recent ones, with Barstool Rasslin, Strickland spoke about his global reign, revealing that he is in the middle of a renegotiation stage with the company. This created excitement among AEW fans, as they did not want their top star to leave.

Well, we have amazing news for you on that front, as Killshot has renewed his contract with the Jacksonville-based promotion. However, the duration of his new contract and other details have yet to emerge. Swerve Strickland officially joined AEW in March 2022. Little by little, the wrestler earned the respect of the public thanks to his performance in the ring and outstanding rivalries, such as the one he had with “Hangman” Adam Page.

Strickland will put the AEW World Championship on the line against Bryan Danielson at All In: London, the PPV that the company will hold on Sunday at Wembley Stadium. A victory for the champion would not only allow him to retain the gold but would also force his opponent to retire as a professional wrestler. In fact, in a recent interview, he mentioned what a win against the American Dragon would mean for him.

After defeating ‘Hangman’ Adam Page in the final of this year’s Owen Hart Cup, Bryan Danielson secured a title match against Swerve Strickland for the AEW World Championship. Later, assuring that if he was defeated, he would retire from professional wrestling. Now, Strickland has spoken out about the fight.

During an appearance on the Eat, Sleep, Repeat podcast, the current World Champion of the company stated that if he manages to defeat Danielson this Sunday at Wembley Stadium, the legacy of his opponent would belong to him. A legacy that he considers as important as the title he currently holds. He said, “That means his legacy belongs to me. To me, that’s as big as the world championship, in a way. Someone that has done everything there is to do in this industry. Since 2001 this man has been one of the pioneers of the style of wrestling that we have on television everywhere. This guy is the foundation of independent wrestling, international styles, in-ring technicians from 2000 on.” 

He further added, “This next generation is carved from this man. A lot of us have studied his tapes. As for me personally, another wrestler that put the Pacific Northwest and the state of Washington on the map. Growing up, ‘We’re so honored, we have somebody from Washington putting on in wrestling.’ That was Bryan Danielson. Now, I want that to be Swerve Strickland. ‘Bryan Danielson, yeah, he was great.
