There had been a huge spotlight on Marcedes Mone regarding his AEW debut during Big Business a few days back. Following a lot of hype and counter-hype, the high-flying debut descended upon her hometown, Boston, when the former WWE Champion stepped into the AEW ring to unbridled CEO chant. Mone had an emotional response to all the love and promised increased participation in the overall betterment of the pro wrestling industry. However. shortly, she witnessed the other side of the picture as the Dynamite episode failed to draw sufficient ratings and viewership numbers. To add to her humiliation, the recently emerged comparison between her and CM Punk and some other bigwigs has been indirectly dredged up by a popular wrestling voice.

Marcedes Mone’s mic skill has been downplayed in light of an old CM Punk comparison

Mone failed to do business in the Big Business. According to some reports, her much-anticipated debut segment managed to garner a total of 8 million views all across the social media platforms. Her usual WWE-AEW comparison came into play again, for obvious reasons. People started to compare the numbers against the WWE’s latest high-profile debut, CM Punk’s Homecoming, spotting a massive dip. Punk’s 46 million viewership was too gigantic to be even compared to Mone’s 8 million. Dave Meltzer, as well, sees no point in the uneven comparison. In the latest edition of his Wrestling Observer Radio, he criticized Mone’s mic skill and average stage presence to rule out the analogy.

”She is not MJF; She is not CM Punk where they can talk and it’s like their talking is good enough, but in her case you know it’s like when I was watching it’s like she’s just got to do a match because this just felt like as a star it wasn’t happening on TV. She came out, her look was great, then she did commentary and I was just going like nothing is happening here”,  Meltzer noted.

However, Meltzer is not the only wrestling intellectual who isn’t pleased with Mone’s current momentum.

Bully Ray seems highly unimpressed with Marcedes Mone’s recent AEW roles

Last week on Dynamite, Mone was present at the commentary desk while Willow Nightingale, Anna Jay, Kris Statlander, and Skye Blue were butting heads with each other to earn a shot at the TBS title. Post the match, Mone had a brief confrontation with Julia Hart. Criticizing her overall role in the episode, WWE legend Bully Ray said, ” Mercedes just felt kind of out there tonight and other than the stare-down with Willow at the end, I’m not sure what she brought to the table other than the arrival shot, entrance, and sitting out there which is sometimes all you really need’.’
