Shane McMahon in AEW—Is this the game-changer wrestling fans have been waiting for?

Tony Khan, President of All Elite Wrestling, and Shane McMahon met this week at Arlington Airport for unknown reasons. Several media outlets spread the news and a photograph confirmed the meeting between the two personalities.

Through a statement issued to Bully Ray that was read at Busted Open Podcast in the last few hours, McMahon confirmed that he had a “great meeting” with Khan. Shane McMahon said they talked about a lot of things, but it was mostly about their love of pro wrestling and the challenges of working with family. He is also excited to see what the future holds for the promotion.

“So, and I quote from Shane McMahon: Tony and I were connected through a mutual friend, and we had a great meeting. We talked about many things, but mostly about our shared love for the business and the rewards and challenges of working with family. I congratulated him on the five-year anniversary of AEW and look forward to how he evolves the business moving forward,” revealed Bully Ray.

Shane McMahon has been absent from WWE since WrestleMania 39 in April 2023. There, he tore his quadriceps within seconds of his match against The Miz. Fightful later revealed in June 2024 that the former WWE executive and talent was not under contract with WWE. The idea that McMahon is not contractually linked to WWE has led to the possibility that the son of Vince McMahon could be an active part of All Elite Wrestling. Both financially and on television.

It was further hinted at on the Busted Open podcast again as they revealed that the major role McMahon could play in the Jacksonville-based promotion was to bring more business rather than participate as an in-ring talent. This possibility, while purely speculative at this point, could have profound implications for the professional wrestling industry, especially AEW. But what does Khan think of Shane McMahon so far? How excited is he for the switch?

Tony Khan on the rumors of Shane McMahon arriving in AEW

Tony Khan, President of All Elite Wrestling, already assured that he did not know Shane McMahon in person. But he had been asked the same question again in an interview for the Maggie & Perloff program. On this occasion, Khan revealed that he was not upset with the meeting between Mercedes Mone and McMahon at an airport and positively valued the appearance of the son of the former WWE chairman in AEW.

He said, “Shane McMahon is somebody that I’ve never met, but he has a lot of experience in wrestling and a lot friends in AEW. I have never really had any conversations with him or talked to him ever. I know he ran into Mercedes Mone after Forbidden Door, which is a cool coincidence. I have never met him. I’d be open to talking to him, and he’s welcome to stop by at any time.”

He further added, “I know that’s an interesting rumor. There have been all kinds of interesting people in wrestling to come into AEW and walk through that Forbidden Door. This might be, if it ever happens, one of the more shocking ones. Even though I’ve never talked to him, he seems like a really nice guy.” It surely looks like Khan has favorable reviews to share on McMahon. No wonder he’s looking to get the son of Vince McMahon to help him and AEW out through his business acumen. What do you think? Will Shane McMahon join AEW? Let us know in the comments.
