All Elite Wrestling continues to work to reach a rights renewal agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery. The negotiation deadline ended this week, but both sides continue to work to reach an ideal point. Tony Khan denied that the deal had gone through and claimed that AEW would have a big deal with a big raise. In fact, Khan was recently invited to a meeting in Paris by David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, to discuss the details of the new TV deal after all the delay.
After the meeting, Tony Khan posted a message on his X account thanking David Zaslav for the invitation to Paris. In his message, he was also very excited about the future of AEW and highlighted the excitement he felt for the show. However, it seems like it’s still not glitter and gold for the president of All Elite Wrestling yet. The ratings of his shows have been shocking, to say the least.
Renowned journalist Dave Meltzer on his F4W podcast recently talked about how the Paris Olympics were predicted to have an effect on the ratings on AEW and WWE programming. However, he did not expect Collision to reach a low of 189,000. He said, “But, you know, before the Olympics started, I basically said any numbers during the Olympics, throw them out. It’s unusual. It doesn’t matter if they get killed, whatever. And I figured everyone was getting killed. NXT got killed. OK. The first week of raw actually did pretty well, with the 18 to 49 is better than I expected. But over 50, but whatever, total viewers got killed. First week of SmackDown got killed. OK. First week of AEW got killed.”

He continued, “Then we got. For actually the first Rampage and Collision were were better than I expected. The second one, the second Rampage, was not the second Collision. I knew it would be terrible between the SummerSlam and being moved out of the time slot. Of course, it was going to do horrible. And it and and did. But the 18 to 49 number, though, 0.08 there, you know, for Collision on that day, it was like, I mean, 189,000 scary.”

This is something that can surely affect the negotiations, as the figures would surely reflect on how much WBD would be willing to invest in the show. The health of the show, as per Meltzer, is dependent on the deal, which is dependent on the ratings. He said, “You know, and then, but yeah, the 18-34 and the advances, that’s more important to me as far as the health, the health of the business, if that’s not the right word, because the business’s health is all dependent on that TV deal. But the health of the fan-driven metrics, the interest of the fan level interest. You’d need that strong 18-34, and that’s where they’ve really been hurt ever since March. That’s that’s the one that’s been hurting. Not every week they’ve had some good weeks. But this was the worst week ever.”
