Tony Khan has been dealing with the dominance WWE usually levies on television ever since he started his own promotion. The Florida-based promotion has seen various ups and downs, including a loss in revenue, attendance, and ratings. However, it seems like Tony Khan is making a comeback this year. Reports suggest that despite how well Triple H‘s company is doing, Khan is recovering from his past setbacks.
Tony Khan’s number game looks good this year
Recently, Dave Meltzer argued on ‘X’ by replying to a fan thread that AEW’s PPV revenue has gotten way better than last year. The first quarter of 2024 has seen improvement over all of 2023. “We know TV rights fees would be up significantly due to the option year increase plus adding of Collision, and that’s the main revenue stream,” said Meltzer. He added to his point, “PPV was up roughly 114% due to a second show and success of the Revolution show. Given that alone, you’d know the increase was very big.”

There are good moments now and then that let AEW celebrate its victories. However, the promotion was suffering with attendance and ratings for quite some time. This had a negative impact on the morale of the performers, as well as everyone working to make the shows possible.

With these reports out in the open, Khan’s promotion may flourish further. Although AEW probably hasn’t surpassed WWE, if the reports are factually correct, then Tony Khan could be on the right path. It will also help him secure a better future for his promotion because a threat was looming when the reports came in last time.
Will Tony Khan have to find a new home?
Tony Khan’s promotion used to air on TNT. Later on, it was shifted over to TBS, a sister company under Warner Bros. Discovery. Despite having changed the broadcast channels, any change in TNT has a potential to hurt AEW over at TBS. Reports have been floating about TNT losing the broadcast rights to NBA either starting in 2025 or 2026. If the basketball league doesn’t renew it, then Warner Bros. would be at a loss of revenue.

This would either mean that they would have more money to focus on AEW, or they might let it go. The latter could be likely because the wrestling promotion doesn’t generate as much rating and viewership as the NBA, making it unlikely that Warner Bros. would support it after losing the NBA.
However, the reports that Meltzer talked about on X may help Tony Khan in the future.
