Ricky Starks staying in AEW—smart move or missed WWE opportunity?

Ricky Starks has been one of the most prominent names in All Elite Wrestling’s news in 2024. It should be remembered that the wrestler has been away from television programming for several months, which generated a series of rumors that pointed to a future departure from the company.

Starks’ statements, stating that he is not injured, only fueled these rumors, with many pointing out that the former FTW champion could be waiting for his contract to expire to sign with WWE. Now he has provided another update on his AEW status on X. As taking to his X, Starks revealed that he would be going to watch a 4D movie since he is not a part of the AEW All-In card.

Later, he provided an update as well, revealing that he had just finished with the movie. But what many felt odd was that the AEW star decided to watch a movie and also provide an update about getting done with it rather than dropping a single tweet about the Jacksonville-based promotion’s biggest night of the year.

This surely proves that Starks is no longer interested in being a part of the promotion. Missing television time is something that often occurs in pro wrestling, but tweeting about not even attending the event surely reveals that there is backstage heat.

“Ricky has been a great star in AEW, been a champion here, and has had great matches here. I think very highly of Ricky. He’s somebody that has been here for several years and he’s under contract in AEW. He’s a well-regarded wrestler here in AEW.” Ricky Starks last competed on the March 30 episode of AEW Collision. Starks and Big Bill faced Top Flight in the quarterfinals of the tournament for the AEW World Tag Team Championships, vacant at the time.

After being defeated, Starks disappeared from the company’s programming, ending his story with Bill, who would join Chris Jericho. Since then, rumors about his departure have not stopped happening, with several reports pointing to the wrestler having rejected several creative ideas for a return to the company’s television programming. What do you think? Is Starks leaving AEW? Let us know in the comments.
