Legendary pro wrestling star Ric Flair has fought in many matches against many opponents. Some of these opponents ended up becoming his friends down the line. One such friend of his is former WWE star Jay Lethal. Now that Lethal has moved to AEW, Flair just remembered El Lethal owed the Nature Boy money.

Why does Jay Lethal owe Ric Flair?

Talking with Liam Crowley of Comicbook.com, Flair touched upon this rarely talked about topic. Flair said, “He and [Jeff] Jarrett owe me money! After the last match, [Jarrett] got hired by AEW. What the hell? I should get ten percent of their money (laughs).” The veteran had faced off against Lethal and his partner Jeff Jarrett at his last match in 2022. Dubbed as the Ric Flair’s Last Match, the 74-year-old star headlined it with his son-in-law Andrade El Idolo.

Flair later added, “They’re great together. I’m happy for Jeff and I think the world of Jay Lethal, he’s one of the most entertaining people in the world.” He then later commented that Lethal can lethally’ destroy him and Macho Man Randy Savage when it comes to entertaining the fans. 

Apart from being rivals for the one-off pay-per-view, Lethal and Flair also happen to share the relationship of mentor and mentee with the latter mentoring Lethal throughout his career.

Ric Flair and Jay Lethal share a history that dates way back. The two had a famous segment on TNA Impact which had fans rolling on the floor with laughter.

Jay Lethal and Ric Flair’s first face-off

Before the two faced each other at Flair’s last match, the two had locked horns at the backstage of TNA Impact back in 2010. In a segment that took a hilarious turn, Lethal was seen confronting Flair and his faction back in the day. What started as a normal confrontation quickly turned into both the stars exchanging Ric Flair’s famous one-liners. If that wasn’t enough, the former Impact stars started shouting “Wohoo” at each other’s faces. The expression “Wohoo” is Ric Flair’s famous catchphrase and somehow it seeped into the conversation.

In the same interview, he talked about the above-mentioned incident. He said that it was completely unrehearsed, and he thanked Lethal for bringing that catchphrase into the conversation. Flair then added, “He’s one of the most underestimated performers in the business.
