The wrestling promotion that Tony Khan built from the ground up four years ago, is doing pretty well when it comes to giving tough competition to Vince McMahon’s decades-old promotion. So, it would not be wrong to say that AEW is thriving. However, lately, the Jacksonville-based promotion is facing some issues regarding its TV viewership ratings. And NBA playoffs on TNT, NHL playoffs on ESPN, and Vanderpump Rules on Bravo are making matters only worse.

AEW TV viewership ratings drop drastically

Wrestlenomics and Showbuzz recently released the TV data ratings. The data is in the form of a graph that depicts the ratings of all sports programs running on different TV networks across the US. According to the latest data, AEW is not doing really well in terms of television viewership ratings.

The May 3 edition of AEW Dynamite recorded 77k viewership. The rating for the episode was 0.28 for the 18-49-year-old demo. As a result, the show fell to the eighth place in the cable rating for the night. This was the lowest viewership since June 15, 2022, for the AEW Wednesday night show.

Also, this records the lowest viewership for AEW Dynamite since October 18, 2022, when the promotion shifted the show to Tuesday night. As per recent reports, it is pointed out that NBA and NHL programs might have a role in drawing away the viewership from AEW.

AEW programs fall on the same day as other sports events, so it may be one of the reasons for the number of viewers to decline drastically. However, WWE is doing pretty well, despite the ongoing NBA and NHL programs. This has led fans to show their discontentment with AEW’s declining rating performance.

Fans react to AEW’s low viewership ratings

WWE is continuously bagging ratings of more than 0.5 every month whereas AEW TV ratings are stuck between 0.2 to 0.4. Therefore fans are questing why AEW is failing in the same area if WWE is thriving. Fans think NBA and NHL playoffs can’t be a reason, as pointed out by the fans.

Fans are upset about using NBA and NHL as an excuse for AEW’s shortcomings.

Some people believe the ratings are low because AEW is just boring.

AEW is recording 0.28 for the past three months. These numbers are way less than WWE. There used to be a time when AEW would beat its rival promotion in terms of ratings.
