WWE‘s NXT: The Great American Bash is scheduled to be a two-night event on the WWE network. AEW and Cody Rhodes will be going head on with the event through their own show called Fyter Fest.

The dual episodes will be aired on July 1st and July 8th.

Triple H may be the godfather of the revamped version of NXT. However, The American Dream was an integral part of the repackaged NXT.

Dusty Rhodes enjoyed coaching young wrestlers and had a lot of influence on the current WWE stars who climbed the ranks through the yellow brand.

His legacy was honored with a tag team tournament in his name i.e. The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

Dusty Rhodes would also teach promo classes to the young athletes. In the Performance Center, a puppet of Rhodes hangs on the equipment, signaling that he is still watching the students.

The Great American Bash was a creation of Dusty Rhodes back in Jim Crocket promotions which eventually became WCW.

The PPV has been in WWE for half a dozen years from 2004 to 2009.

Cody Rhodes gives his take on The Great American Bash

In a podcast with Busted Open, Rhodes speaks about Dusty Rhodes’ contribution to the event.

Cody revealed that he Great American bash wasn’t just a name given by his father. In fact, his father contributed a lot more than what people think.

He further goes on to express that he is not angry with WWE as long as things are done in a positive manner.

“I am not going to get angry because it still brings up his name in a positive way. The marketing of the event reminds me of what Disney currently does. If you go to Disney World, they still sell haunted mansion shirts and they’re all done retro style. They market Nostalgia. If you run a sizzle with Sting and Dusty Rhodes and Hulk Hogan, none of those guys are going to be there. I’m not really upset about it.”

Where marketing nostalgia is concerned, Triple and WWE know it well.

WWE has always hosted multiple throwback shows a year like RAW old school, WWE Hall of Fame, or the most recent RAW reunion.

Vince McMahon knows a thing or two about the  effect nostalgia can put in the hearts of the fans.

Triple H and WWE have also followed this same path in NXT. In the last couple of years, the King of kings has brought back many PPV’s of the past from WWE and WCW.

These include War Games, In Your House and now The Great American Bash. WWE also brought back Starrcade in the year 2019 on the WWE Network.

Cody hopes WWE makes The Great American Bash Special

Cody Rhodes feels good that WWE is honoring his father’s name in an adorable way and with respect. The American nightmare hopes The Great American Bash is a well-produced show.

Cody Rhodes was disappointed with Starrcade and Micheal Hayes. Here is what the AEW Executive Vice President has to say.

I hope that they do something special with it because I hated what Michael Hayes did with Starrcade. He took a creation of my dad’s and he made it a live event because they weren’t selling any tickets in North Carolina and he wanted to save his job. That was disappointing to me, in terms of that was the premier event of World Championship Wrestling and the NWA, and you did what you did with it.

“And the same, I hope, is not what happens with Great American Bash. I’m not upset at anything that brings my dad’s name in a positive light. Is it a weird feeling? For sure, But I like that they bring his name up in a charming and loving way, I just hope it’s not another Starrcade situation.”
