With the advancement of technology, the level of scrutiny has increased. While people could get away with mistakes in the past, due to lack of concrete evidence, it is getting increasingly difficult to hide away from mistakes in the current time. One such mistake, made by AEW star CM Punk, has come back to haunt him after over a decade.

This is also threatening to eclipse the present positive work he’s doing for the LGBTQ+ community.

Before plying his trade in AEW, where he is currently employed, Punk made a name for himself in the WWE. During his nine-year association with the Stamford-based promotion, from 2004-2014, Punk aligned himself with a few groups. One among them was The New Nexus.

An old footage has surfaced of the star wearing a T-shirt of the stable and confronting a fan in what looks like a WWE house show. The year must be between 2010 and 2011, during which the said stable was active in the promotion.

Punk is seen shouting at a male fan, telling the faithful the latter has female anatomical parts. The Second City Saint also shouted the word “homo” as an insult as things got heated. The clip has now made its way back to the internet as several people have either tweeted the video or wrote about the incident on X, erstwhile Twitter.

It also shows a different take of Punk’s, which is in sharp contrast to his sentiment on the issue now. With age, he too has matured and has become an advocate of gay rights, especially of trans people.

Shortly after that, AEW announced through its AEW Shop X handle that they will sell the same variety of the garment till 22 August. The company also announced that 100 percent royalties from the sale would be donated to The Trevor Project, which is an organization that prevents suicides among LGBTQ+ youths.

Punk had also shown his support to an ice cream company that helps transgender people. After he received criticism, he spoke about the issue on the debut episode of Collision on June 17.

Fans of CM Punk would hope that the old footage does not do him much harm and derail his current cause. While people make mistakes, it’s important to learn from them and be better. CM Punk has already shown that, but the internet is a dubious place at times.
