Legendary commentator Jim Ross worked for the WWE for over 20 years. And during his time in the Stamford-based promotion, he worked not only as an onscreen talent but also as a behind-the-scenes executive. And now he works at All Elite Writing after being made a part of the Tony Khan-led promotion back in 2019.

And he recently talked about working under Vince McMahon and Tony Khan and made a comparison that was surely not received well by the fans of the WWE and pro wrestling alike. But what did he say? Let’s find out, shall we?

On his podcast ‘Grilling JR’, Jim Ross revealed the inner workings of both promotions and how both McMahon and Khan make sure to be involved in every aspect of their companies. Apart from the booking, they also try to be part of other duties as well. Thus, Ross believed the two were similar, particularly when it comes to the level of control Khan had over his promotion.

Just like Vince McMahon once had. He said, “I’ve been really enjoying Collision here lately; that team who writes that are doing a real good job, and I know it’s spearheaded by Tony Khan. There’s no doubt who’s the alpha male in that company, and that’s a good thing …. That’s how it was when I first went to WWE with Vince. He had his hand in everything—t-shirt designs, ticket prices, on-sale dates, venues, everything, every single thing. And because that’s what he wanted, and he liked to be deeply involved.”

However, Khan has often been called out by former AEW talents such as CM Punk for trying to be friends with his employees rather than their boss. And this behavior of being too nice is what causes major issues in promotion.

This is very similar to what used to take place in WCW. Where it seemed like Scott Hall and Hulk Hogan had more control over the promotion than Eric Bischoff. This further led the company to get dissolved and bought by its rivals, the WWE. So this comparison surely did not sit well with the fans.

Fans rally against Jim Ross’ comparison

As soon as Ross made the comparison, fans were quick to call out the legendary commentator. According to them, Jim Ross actually did not believe the same and had made the statement under pressure. Afterall, Vince McMahon was known for being as stern as they get, unlike Tony Khan. So it surely has to be pressure, either contractual, or maybe Ross was even held at gunpoint according to a user.

Some users were offended at the fact that Jim Ross called Khan an alpha male. As according to them, being a control freak does not signify being an alpha male. And the only reason Ross might be calling him one is because the AEW President is paying them all. However, unlike alpha males who are believed to be fearless, Tony Khan removed CM Punk from the promotion saying that he feared for his life back when Punk was in AEW. Especially after the brawl between Punk and Jack Perry.

It surely looks like fans do not believe that the two bosses are similar at all. Now only time will tell if Khan actually changes his style of management and takes a more firm stand. What do you think? Do you agree with Ross’ comparison? Let us know in the comments.
