This week on SmackDown, what seemed like the stage to make WrestleMania’s most anticipated rematch of the year official turned into a disaster. Cody Rhodes stepped aside for The Rock‘s return to hint at a WrestleMania 40 match against Roman Reigns.

However, things took a turn for the worse, contrary to WWE’s expectations. Fans expressed their anger at seeing the veteran ‘People’s Champion’ take the place of today’s top star, Cody Rhodes. And not just fans, even a veteran has come forward to show his support for Rhodes. And it is none other than his elder brother, Dustin Rhodes.

‘The American Nightmare’ has received massive support from fans and peers alike, including his own blood. AEW star Dustin Rhodes took to X to show his support for the 2024 Royal Rumble winner. He reminded Rhodes of the legacy of their family and threw subtle shade at the WWE as well as he wrote, “No matter what any company throws at a “Rhodes”, we make lemonade out of it!! We are forever and one of the most iconic families of all time. What we do….., is always #KeepSteppin #RhodesLove”

The wrestling faithful can take solace in the fact the WWE’s plans could be forcefully derailed if scrutiny continues to be mounted. WWE could reconsider its decision and potentially insert Cody Rhodes back into the world title picture against Roman Reigns this year. However, the former Goldust has always been vocal about his opinions on Cody Rhodes finishing his story.

Dustin Rhodes, in an interview with Denise Salcedo, expressed his full support for Cody Rhodes and his aspirations to become the Undisputed Universal Champion at WrestleMania. And while he hoped Cody could achieve his goal, in a case of sheer foreshadowing, he noted that they don’t know if WWE intends to pick him as Roman Reigns’ opponent at this year’s WrestleMania.

He said, “He has a story that he’s had in his mind that he has to finish. We’ve all heard it, every single week, ‘finish the story.’ I tell him that all the time, I hope he does. I think he’s probably slated for it this year, at least I’m hoping. He doesn’t know yet. We’re just playing it by ear. He’s working hard, he’s trying his hardest to be the face of that company. It would be nice to get a payoff, the one Rhodes in the family that actually pulls it off, it’s pretty cool. I’m behind him 110%, very happy for him, I love him to death. He’s earned it. He deserves it.”
