In the final months of 2023, Maxwell Jacob Friedman suffered tears to his hip and damage to his arm and shoulder. The wrestler struggled to avoid surgery to repair the latter, which led to his long absence from the ring.
But finally, on AEW Double or Nothing 2024, the professional wrestler made his return to All Elite Wrestling after a five-month break. And not just that, The Devil also announced that he has renewed his contract with the company. But if he is completely healed, why did he enter the arena in a wheelchair? Let’s find out.
MJF made his return by interrupting Adam Cole’s promo. The superstar, who looked like he could make peace with Cole, launched a surprise attack on his opponent with a low blow. And after the attack, MJF pledged allegiance to Tony Khan’s company. Declaring that his goal for the future is to regain the top spot in All Elite Wrestling.

And it seems like Tony Khan, too, is aware of the fact that MJF is arguably the biggest star he has in the company. So he went to great lengths to make sure that no one was able to find out about his surprise return beforehand. And according to pro wrestling insiders Fightful, MJF was spotted on a plane to Vegas by a fan.
But to make sure that no one in the Double or Nothing venue finds out about his return, MJF was brought in a wheelchair. And not just that. He also had himself completely covered up and disguised.
