With MJF's update, is AEW set to surpass WWE in the wrestling industry?

Over the past few weeks, it has been heavily rumored that AEW and Warner Bros. Discovery were close to reaching a new renewal deal. In addition, Tony Khan was recently invited to a meeting in Paris by David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, to discuss the details of the new TV deal. After the meeting, Tony Khan posted a message on his X account thanking David Zaslav for the invitation to Paris.

In his message, he was also very excited about the future of AEW and highlighted the excitement he felt for AEW programming. At the moment, neither AEW nor Warner Bros. Discovery has officially announced the renewal of the television rights. However, it is expected that this situation will be resolved and that more details about the new agreement will come to light. Even Tony Khan has hinted at a major announcement that will be made at AEW All-In. All this hype surely made MJF break character to give his two cents on the future landscape of All Elite Wrestling after they get the deal.

In a recent interview, he talked about how AEW would become the second most successful pro wrestling company in history. The Devil said, “We’re going to get a major amount of money thrown our way from Turner. If we do, we are looking at the most successful professional wrestling company besides WWE ever. Which, why is that not spoken about? I’ll tell you why. It’s because. that’s not how you guys make money. And that’s not me throwing shade.”

He continued, “I’m a star. I’m one of the biggest names in the industry. Which is a fact. Because I’m a little bit of a lightning rod. I’m a little bit f**kin controversial. What is controversial about you guys saying, well if they get this TV deal they are literally the second most successful professional wrestling company that has ever existed. Do you guys know how long the sport of professional wrestling has been around?”

So it seems like the deal between AEW and WBD is almost done. But weren’t there rumors about the deal already being closed and confirmed a few weeks ago? Well, that amounted to fake information being spread by some on the internet. But according to the AEW President, Tony Khan, WWE instigated the rumors.

During the week, reports suggested that AEW and Warner Bros. Discovery had closed a deal for the renewal of television rights and that the announcement was imminent. However, the news was denied shortly after by Fightful, which reported that, although the deal is expected to close, it is not yet imminent. In fact, Tony Khan will have a meeting with David Zaslav, Warner’s top executive, next week.

During the media call as a preview of ROH Death Before Dishonor, Tony Khan spoke about the negotiations with Warner Bros. Discovery and, among other things, he claimed that a very important person in the media told him that WWE was leaking AEW’s alleged deal with Warner. He said, “I don’t usually do this, but since Brandon brought it up and asked. I had a major member of the wrestling media mention to me yesterday, WWE is telling people that, and I don’t know why WWE is telling people about our media rights deal. I don’t know whether it’s any of their business.”

Khan added, “I don’t really understand why WWE PR calls people and talks about my business. WWE PR is telling people that the deal is done and that the deal is done at the same level that it was going to be our previous deal. That’s not the case. I don’t know why WWE PR and why major wrestling media members, who are very credible and never lied to me, I don’t know why they are telling people that.”

Tony Khan has been optimistic about relations and negotiations with Warner Bros. Discovery, but the agreement has not been completed to date and so far the window of exclusive negotiations with Warner continues to be in force. What do you think? Will Khan be able to close the deal? Let us know in the comments.
